I've only had a few hours listening to the full stream of Father John Misty's new album I Love You Honeybear and it is already a favourite, but given his previous effort Fear Fun is one of my most played albums it comes as no surprise. Tillman has been steadily releasing tracks from the album over the past few months, all contributing towards an album that is equal parts cynicism and love, sarcasm and bitterness, earnestness and humour. As pitchfork simply put it: For someone fond of glockenspiels, Tillman says the word "fuck" a lot.
The amazing illustrations by the talented Stacy Rozich is another reason to love the record - her perfectly imagined creatures are the reasons I had to get a copy of this cut-out folded deluxe trip-colour vinyl that is available on the Father John Misty website. Do yourself a favour, give it a listen and buy that beautiful vinyl edition!
